About Us
ABOUT KEDUCATEBD
Hello.
I am Mohammed Khurshed Alam
For thirty-three years, I stood in classrooms at one of Bangladesh’s most respected colleges. I taught English literature to students who arrived terrified of Milton and left arguing about him in the corridors. I was Head of the Department of English for over a decade. I retired in July 2024. I miss the classroom, but I have not stopped teaching.
Keducatebd is my classroom now — and you are WELCOME in it.
Who I Am
I hold a B.A. (Honours) and M.A. in English from the University of Chittagong, and advanced training in teaching from the National University, Bangladesh. For thirty-three years, I served as Assistant Professor and later Head of the Department of English at a leading college in Chittagong, guiding syllabuses, training teachers, and preparing generations of students for their examinations and their lives beyond them.
Why I Built This Site
I started Keducatebd because I saw a gap. The internet is full of summaries but thin on guidance. A student searching for “Paradise Lost summary” does not need a Wikipedia rehash. They need someone to explain why Satan’s rhetoric still seduces, why Milton’s syntax fights his own theology, and how to write an essay about it that earns a distinction.
That is what I do here. Every article on this site is written (and rewritten) the way I would teach it: with patience, with context, and with the expectation that you are capable of thinking deeply.
Experiences and Training
My work in education has been recognized beyond the classroom. I was awarded Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert status for five consecutive years (2015–2019), participated in the Microsoft Global Forum in Barcelona, Spain (2014), and was selected to attend BETT Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2016) as a classroom technology expert sponsored by Microsoft Inc., USA. I am also a certified 21st Century Learning Design Expert and Teaching SDG Expert.
I am a retired member of TESOL (USA) and IATEFL (UK), and I currently serve as Chairman and Co-Founder of the Mahbub Foundation (registered in New Jersey, USA), where we oversee philanthropic work focused on education, women’s empowerment, and social awareness. I also advise a madrasa and have led international projects sponsored by the U.S. State Department, Microsoft Inc., the Asia Foundation, and the Australian Government.
What You Will Find Here
- Deep Study Guides: Line-by-line analyses of canonical texts – Milton, Shakespeare, Brecht, Spenser, the Modernists – written for serious students.
- Literary Theory Made Practical: Explanations of criticism and theory that you can actually use in your essays.
- Academic Skills: How to read a poem, how to structure a literary essay, how to argue with a text instead of just describing it.
- Honest Recommendations: I link to the editions I actually use. If I recommend a book, it is because I have taught it.
How to Work With Me
I am retired, but I am not idle. If you are a student who needs:
One-on-one tutoring in English literature or academic writing
Essay feedback before submission
Exam preparation for university-level literature courses
…I offer limited sessions. You can reach me directly at keducatebd@gmail.com or via Zoom or Google Meet.
A Note on How I Write
I use modern tools to help me research and draft, but every word you read here passes through my judgment first. I have spent too many years in front of blackboards to let a machine have the final say on Chaucer or Woolf. If you find an error – factual, grammatical, or interpretive – tell me. I will correct it. A professor who stops learning has stopped teaching.
Thank you for reading. Now pick a text and let us begin.
